Sierra Horse Transport Common Questions

Here are a few of the most commonly asked questions

Why should I use Sierra Horse Transportation?

Seirra Horse Transport company not only cares for your horses and animals on the trailer, we provide services more than just drivers of trucks or brokerage of your horse to be moved. We are not a one stop shop for all as not all needs are the same. We will never claim we can do it all. What we can do is provide a service that is refreshingly satisfying with a line of communication to the client at all times during shipments.

What do I need before I ship my horse?

Before shipment date, you will need a health certificate (good for 30 days); a Coggins test for Equine Infectious Anemia (good for 6 months to a year-check with your local vet for state laws upon this matter);Photo copies will NOT be accepted. Only original copies or in some cases a notarized copy only. Failure to produce proper paperwork will result in a direct cancellation. In some states you may also need a brand inspection. Please see a listing of the following states;

Arizona-Colorado-Montana-Idaho-Nebraska-Nevada-New Mexico-Oregon-Utah-Washington-Wyoming.

***Only if your horse is from one of the listed states is the brand inspection required***

Do I need shipping boots?

Shipping boots are not required for shipment. Young horses that have never been on a trailer before or are not used to boots are NOT recommended to wear any. If at any time the boot comes off, it will not be reapplied.

What will my cost be and how can I pay for the shipping of my horse(s)?

Cost of shipping is determined by the number of horses and stall sizes required for safe and healthy transportation of any horse on the van.

What if I have a hard loading horse?

It is the owner's responsibility to prepare a horse for shipment. Excessive loading timeframes change delivery schedules set to maintain safety of drivers (rest time) and other horses on the van to get on and off at preset times.

What if there is an emergency in route and my horse gets sick or injured?

All customers will be notified immediately of any and all delays. All veterinarian bills will be reimbursed at delivery.

Can I take extra tack and how much?

Light tack is carried without charge (small tack trunk - 12" X 20" X 24" maximum allowable without charge). Extra hay and complete tack storages are too space consuming and will result in extra charges or fee.(When booking exclusive trips, allowable tack sizes may not apply) **Please check when booking your horse if you have a large amount of tack**

Will the truck be delivering in the middle of the night?

On occasion our deliveries may be as late as 11:30 PM to 12:00 AM. We cannot control weather or traffic situations and must keep your horse and others on for a safe time period. Keeping horses on the trailer for any extra time is not according to policy and safety regulations of Sierra Equine.

How much notice do I need to ship my horse?

Typically we would need 7-10 days for shipment needs of single horses (Unless they are traveling in the regular routes on the west coast and or to the Chicago basin). Multiple to full load bookings can process in 3-5 days to set trips.

Can I book the trailer exclusively?

Any load can be booked exclusively with a 2-5 day lead time. Please call (405)641-2562 to check prices for the trip you are looking to book.
